Villages of character, mountain landscapes and exceptional natural sites: here are some ideas for discovering the region beyond the beaches and hikes.
🏚️ Muna
Clinging to the mountain above the Liamone valley, Muna is an ancient village whose stone houses blend into the landscape.
The small road which provides access is already part of the discovery.
Take the time to leisurely explore the village on foot and observe the old houses, the church and the surrounding landscapes.
For walkers
It is also possible to reach Muna on foot via the old mule path from the Belfiore bridge. Find this hike in the Walks & hikes section.
Cargèse
Cargèse is worth a visit for its special history and its location facing the sea.
The village is particularly known for its two churches facing each other, one of the Latin rite and the other of the Greek rite.
Stroll through the streets, go down to the port or simply sit on a terrace to enjoy the village atmosphere.
🚶 The Puntiglione promenade
From Cargèse, the Puntiglione promenade offers a pleasant stroll with beautiful views of the sea and the coastline.
It’s an easy walk to integrate into your visit to the village.
A quiet outing
Visit the two churches, wander through the village then finish in the Puntiglione before having a drink or lunch at Cargèse.
🏞️ Piana & the Calanques
The village of Piana and its famous Calanques are part of the unmissable landscapes of the west coast.
The road passes through impressive red granite formations sculpted by erosion, with the sea and Gulf of Porto in the background.
Take your time: here, the road is part of the visit.
For walkers

⚓ Ancient port of Castagna
Between Piana and Porto, take the time to discover the small port of Castagna.
Away from the busiest sites, it is a pleasant place to make a short stop on the way to Porto.
💧 The Castagna fountain also allows you to take a break and quench your thirst.
🌊 Porto
At the bottom of its gulf, between sea and mountains, Porto is an excellent destination for a day.
You can discover the small port, stroll along the seafront and go up to the Genoese tower which dominates the entrance to the gulf.
Porto is also one of the main departure points for boat trips to Scandola and Girolata.
⛵ Boat trips from Sagone
Several companies offer sea excursions directly from Sagone, near the lodge.
Different packages are offered depending on the duration and the sites you want to discover:
- Calanques of Piana & Capo Rosso;
- Scandola & Girolata nature reserve;
- Grand tour, generally combining the Calanques of Piana, Capo Rosso, Scandola and Girolata.
Some outings also include a swimming break or a stopover at Girolata.
Our advice
Departure from Sagone is particularly practical: no need to join Porto to discover the gulf from the sea.
Several companies offer these excursions; compare the packages according to the desired duration, the type of boat and the stopovers offered.
🌲 Évisa & Aïtone forest
The village of Évisa, perched above the Spelunca gorges, marks the entrance to a completely different landscape.
Continuing the road, you cross the magnificent Aïtone** forest, known for its laricio pines and mountain landscapes.
Several walks allow you to discover the forest and reach the river and its natural swimming pools.
⛰️ Collar of Vergio
Continuing the road through the Aïtone forest, you will reach the col de Vergio, at an altitude of 1,477 m.
It is the highest road pass in Corsica. The road crosses very beautiful mountain landscapes and offers a striking contrast with the coastline.
The GR20 also passes through the pass.
A beautiful day in the mountains
Évisa → forest of Aïtone → pass of Vergio is a very nice day or half-day excursion.
